Happy Fourth of July! For most of us, today will be filled with fun, food and fireworks. It’s a great day to spend some time with family and friends. I’ve come up with a couple of activities for you and your favorite 18 inch doll to do together because she’s part of the family too!
A fun patriotic craft to make is an American flag out of popsicle sticks. You can make one for you and one for your doll! You should be able to find everything you need at most craft stores. You’ll need both mini and normal-sized popsicle sticks, glue, newspaper, glitter (optional), a paintbrush and red, white and blue paint.
To begin, place the newspaper on a solid surface to keep the paint from damaging your table or floor. Next, lay about 7 regular popsicle sticks down horizontally. These will become the flag. Next, glue 3 regular popsicle sticks vertically on top of the horizontal ones. Placing one on the left, one in the middle and one on the right. This will provide support for your flag. Now, flip it over so the vertical sticks are on the back. Next, add paint to the popsicle sticks to make it look like the flag. The stripes on the flag start with red so be sure to start yours with the same color! Finally, add glitter to your flag if you want to give it an extra sparkle.
To make a mini flag for your doll you can follow the same instructions above with the mini popsicle sticks. You can download these instructions by clicking on the picture at the bottom.
Your doll will need an outfit to take pictures in with her new flag! I’ve picked out a fun red, white and blue outfit for her to pose (and play) in.
For the top, I picked our white layering cami. This shirt is perfect for a hot summer day but it can also be used as an extra layer when it gets cold out. For the bottoms, I chose our tulle skirt in red. This skirt features layers of tulle over a satin skirt with an elastic waistband. I love this piece for the Fourth because its fun, cute and also functional. Your doll can really move and play in this skirt. I paired this with our denim vest on top for some blue. This versatile piece can also be worn in Autumn, Spring or Winter by pairing it with either a long sleeves or short sleeves shirt underneath. To complete this patriotic outfit, I chose our sequin sneakers in silver. These are perfect for your doll to run around and play in. She doesn’t have to worry about her shoes no matter what she does with her holiday.
